Discover the Expansive Knowledge in the World of S.M.A.W.
Come with me and I will show you the unlimited knowledge about S.M.A.W.

In today’s generation, the world expanse her knowledge to its better by the breakthrough of all geniuses of the human kind. In the field of computers and automobiles, but also in the field of welding. Shielded metal arch welding (S.M.A.W.) is the simplest, least expensive, and mostly widely used arc welding process. it is often referred to as ‘stick welding’ or manual metal arc welding. this process produces coalescence of metals by heating them with an arc between a covered metal electrode and the base metal work piece. Shielding is provided by decomposition of the electrode covering.

S.M.A.W. can also cut metals, not only uniting them.
Quality issues that can arise from the SMAW welding process includes porosity caused by gas in the weld that did not escape before the metal solidified, leaving the weld weak due to gas bubbles, splatter caused by low voltage or high amperage, poor fusion from dirty metal or low power, shallow penetration caused by too fast of a travel time, too low a current or too large an electrode, and cracking caused by the above issues as well as not allowing movement in the weld while working and using inappropriate metals in the piece.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding, also known as manual metal arc welding, flux shielded arc welding or informally as stick welding, is a manual arc welding process that uses a consumable electrode covered with a flux to lay the weld.

Arc welding
As the name suggests, arc welding uses an electric arc to melt materials before joining them together. The electric arc is brought between the two materials using an electrode (mostly non-consumable electrode).
This electric arc can create temperatures upwards of 3500°C, which is sufficiently high to melt high strength metals like carbon steel. This method also uses shielding gas in conjunction with arc welding.
This is because the atmospheric air can interact with the weld pool and cause oxidation.
There are different types of arc welding such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), Plasma Arc welding (PAW), etc.

To protect yourself while welding, basic personal protective equipment must be worn. This includes, at a minimum, heavy leather gloves, a long-sleeved jacket and a welding helmet. Ultraviolet light released during the welding process can cause retinal burns and permanent eye damage if the filter in the helmet’s faceplate does not protect your eyes. Additionally, the welding process can release gasses that can be harmful to your health, so providing sufficient ventilation is important.

STICK WELDING
Stick Welding, also known as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) or Covered Electrode, the most widely used of the various arc welding processes, utilizes a fixed length electrode and an electric power source to join a variety of different metals. The core of the covered electrode consists of a solid metal rod that is surrounded by a covering of mineral compounds and metal powders mixed with a binding agent to help them adhere to the surface of the electrode. The core rod conducts electric current to the arc and provides filler metal for the joint. The sizes and types of electrodes for Stick Welding define the arc voltage requirements (within the overall range of 16 to 40 volts) and the amperage requirements (within the overall range of 20 to 550 amp). The current may be either alternating or direct depending on the electrode used, but the power source must be able to control the level of current within a reasonable range to respond to the complex variables of the welding process itself.
